When I was between the ages of 2 and 8 and again when I was 12, I lived in Toronto. We used to go to see Niagara Falls on a quite regular basis. Since that time the falls have actually moved back about 4 feet! That is a small change compared to the commercialization that has happened. Fortunately, the Canadians have been careful to keep it up the hill and away from the falls themselves, but it still makes an impact.
This is a picture from the edge of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side.
If you go down the tunnel to the bottom of the falls 'Journey Behind the Falls' you will get wet. It's a great view though. If you are worrying about your hairdo, you probably wouldn't be seen dead in the yellow plastic outfit anyway.
It's very hard to describe the scale and power of Niagara Falls. Just go there and make sure you take the Maid of the Mist tour. You won't actually go under the falls, I don't think the boats have enough power to get that close, but you will experience how small you are in comparison. Notice the people in the top left of the picture. In this picture you can only see about 1/4 of Horseshoe Falls.
The Maid of the Mist (one of them) as viewed from the top of the falls. Notice the lip of the falls in the picture partially obscuring the MotM.
According to Jessica, the BLUE plastic you get on the 'Maid of the Mist' is much more stylish than the yellow ones you get at the 'Journey Behind the Falls' :-)
