When we finally arrived far up Knight Inlet at the Glendale
Spawning Channel via a 1 1/2 hour boat
ride from
Knight Inlet Lodge on Minstrel Island, then a short van ride to where the grizzlies should be,
we were not
disappointed.
We saw about a dozen or so Grizzlies playing and catching salmon.
There was one mother bear there with her 3 cubs and all the other bears were
keeping a clear berth of her.
|

The bears found it easier to catch the fish near the shallows where the salmon
would need to jump out of the water to get upstream. |

This one is just letting me know it knows I'm there.
Look away Frank. That ain't lipstick he's wearing. |

Along the way we saw this black bear on the shore. |
|

Once caught it would take about 10 minutes to eat a good size salmon. |
I'm not really sure what this bear was looking at. Maybe he was trying to smell
something. |

Here is the garb we wore on the boat to take us up Knight Inlet to
the bears. Only 4 of us were on the boat along with our host John
Reid. |
|

Salmon were trying to get upstream right where the bears congregated.
|

The 3 bears.
These bear cubs were never far from their mother. |
The gorgeous view at the bend of Knight Inlet near the bears. |
|
This bear came up on the path between where we were and our van. Fortunately, we were somewhat protected by a raised platform. |
There was a lot of growling. The bear on the left is the cub's mother. The
other eventually backed down and walked away, avoiding eye contact
with her. |
Here the bear just caught one of the many it would eat this day. |

The Caribbean-like blue water comes from the seasonal melting of the glacier further
up Knight Inlet.
Klinaklini Icefield (Silverthrone Glacier) As you travel closer to the glacier, the amount of fresh water increases and
the blue gets paler. |
